Iced coffee and cold brews have became increasingly popular in the past decade. A refreshing alternative way to enjoy your favourite coffee on a hot summer's day.
In the guide, we will explore the best ways to make it for yourself at home so you can enjoy it whenever you like, using our unique sheepdog blends and single origins of course.
First things first, to make a great iced coffee, you cannot make a hot coffee and dunk ice cubes into your cup or glass. All that achieves is diluting the coffee and resulting in a luke warm cup of weak coffee.
In order to achieve the perfect cold brew, we need to change the brewing method and there are various methods to use in order to brew correctly.
Some Different Ways To Make An Iced Coffee
The French Press Method:
- Add ground coffee to the french press and pour water over it
- Stir to saturate to coffee
- Place the lid back on the french press but don't plunge
- Place the french press in the fridge for 12-24 hours
- Once steeped, press down the plunger to separate the coffee grounds
- Fill a glass with ice cubes and milk to desired level (unless you want it black)
- Add the steeped coffee from the french press
Cold Drip / Drip Tower Method:
- Add coffee grounds to the top chamber.
- Slowly drip water onto the coffee grounds, allowing it to percolate through the coffee and collect in the bottom chamber.
- Adjust the drip rate to control the strength of your cold brew.
- Let it drip for 12-24 hours.
- Collect the cold brew coffee from the bottom chamber and serve.
Minimal Equipment Classic Cold Brew Method:
- Combine coffee grounds and water in a large container or jar.
- Stir the coffee grounds to make sure they are properly saturated.
- Seal the container and refrigerate for 12-24 hours.
- Strain the cold brew coffee through a coffee filter or fine mesh strainer and serve
Iced Coffee can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, black, with milk, with or without ice or included in cocktails. Perfect for a warm summer's day.
